Weekly Topic
Week of November 9th, 2010
Our topic for this week is “Faith.”
What is it, how do we get it, and more importantly how do we demonstrate it?
According to holy scriptures, “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…” (Heb. 11:1) NKJV
Scripture also tells us in Hebrews 10:38 that the “just (people) shall live by faith, but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
To many, faith is equated with belief. This certainly has a measure of truth, however as we study God’s word we see that mere belief is insufficient to have a saving faith, for “even the demons believe, and tremble,” (James 2:19) yet they do not have a saving faith.
No, although belief is an important aspect of faith, it is not sufficient alone. Faith requires belief, but it is a belief anchored by a trust and dependence on God strong enough to inspire obedience and action on the part of people by which they demonstrate their utter trust upon God regardless of whether or not it is logical or makes common sense.
Hebrews 11:6
“…without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
